ARTIST’S
STATEMENT
With my paintings, I celebrate the sensual pleasure of dancing with colour,
light and form. They reflect both the intensity of the light in my native
Argentina and the joy of the light in my new country, Australia. And there is
much joy in the bold and vibrant pigments which I used for this work, and which
are the building blocks for my expression of my inner impulses and dreams. Over
these 'images' of dreams and impulses I lay layers of transparent glazes until
the result is as complex and deep as the imagination and psyche itself.
My paintings are very much made in the moment. They are not made to fit some
intellectual notion of how a painting should be constructed; they are an
expression of my mood, my temperament and my outlook on life. And yet, my study
of the technique of the Old Masters at the Charlie Sheard Studio School informs
everything I do. The result rides on the contradiction between discipline and
freedom. I like to reveal the linen on which the paintings are constructed: it
shows through like a glimpse of where we begin and where we end up.
