Artist Background

Sue Meyer’s work emerges instinctively and it is easy to be swept up in its fluidity and depth. She has exhibited continuously since 1997 and has been selected as a finalist in numerous competitions.

Born of Iraqi-Jewish heritage Sue grew up immersed in the exotic sights and sounds of Singapore. Her multicultural experiences have left an indelible mark on her artistic practice. She migrated to Australia at age 16 and attributes living in Sydney by the sea and travelling, as her continual inspiration. 

Her technique involves the application of layers including acrylics, ink, charcoal and other media to create metaphorical images and luminescent abstractions. Sue’s abstracts evoke a sense of mystery and ambiguity; open ended they invite the viewer in.

Contemporary Australian artists Pam Cowper and Elizabeth Cummings have been amongst Sue’s inspirational teachers.

“For me, painting is a journey of discovery. Over time, hidden layers of thoughts, feelings and ideas evolve into expressive art works. I continue to be fascinated with the possibility of creating something beautiful out of chaos and adversity. The smallest detail impacts on the balance and harmony of the whole.”
